About this ledger

Mossy Ledger is a personal, non-commercial hobby site. It began when I tried to make a notebook for myself instead of buying one, and discovered that a needle, some thread and a stack of folded paper could become something I genuinely enjoyed using.

Since then I have kept a written log of every book I make. The entries here are adapted from that log: practical notes on binding structures, paper, simple tools and the habit of keeping handwritten journals.

A few things to know

• I am a self-taught amateur, not a professional binder or conservator. Valuable or old books deserve a trained conservator, not my methods.
• Nothing here is sponsored, and I do not sell anything.
• All text and drawings on the site are my own.
• The site uses no cookies, scripts, analytics or third-party services.

Why "ledger"?

Because the first book I bound properly was a ruled notebook in which I log each new project: date, paper, thread and a line about how it went. It still sits on the shelf above my worktable, and this site is really its public companion.

New entries are added whenever a project is finished, which is to say irregularly.
